How to Get Rid of a Pimple on Your Lip
How many times have you missed out on a party just because there was a massive pimple on your face? A pimple, commonly known as a zit or a spot, is what happens when too much oil gets trapped inside those tiny pores in your skin. Other varieties of pimples include the papule or the pustule.
If you have excessively oily skin, you may have seen a pimple now and then. Treating acne isn’t difficult, it just takes a bit of time. There are numerous over the counter ointments and treatment methods available that you can use to remove a pimple. If you can notice pimples on your skin, chances are that you can also see a few blackheads around that region. They are also caused due to blockages in the pores. In this article, we shall talk about some of the most effective methods used to treat pimples and blackheads.
What Causes Pimples
Before I begin and discuss the many treatments available for pimples, it’s important to understand the exact cause of pimples. Inside the pores of your skin are these small glands that are known as the sebaceous glands. The sebaceous glands are responsible for producing sebum, which is the oily substance that maintains moisture in your skin and keeps it elastic. The outer layers of your skin shed regularly and dead skin cells are removed. However, not all of the cells are removed every time the skin sheds. Sometimes, the dead skin cells may remain stuck to the sebum, thus causing a blockage. You might have noticed that people who go through puberty often suffer from acne or pimples. That’s because the skin becomes thicker when a person enters puberty. This leads the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. The bacteria in the blocked pores can eventually cause inflammation and serious infections. Sometimes, these pimples might appear around the lips as well. There are many ways to treat pimples and acne around the lips. Simple Ways to Get Rid of a Pimple On Your Lip Overnight
Now that you know what exactly causes a pimple, you will hopefully not be as frustrated when another pimple pops up on your skin. There’s no point shouting or pulling your hair out in front of a mirror about it. I have already stated that there’s no quick-fire method of removing a pimple. You can pop it, but that would leave a permanent mark on your skin. Therefore, we will first discuss some lifestyle changes that you need to make to minimize the chances of pimples appearing on your skin.
1. Balanced Diet and Water
I really can’t state the importance of eating a balanced diet and consuming adequate amounts of water. People who eat a lot of junk food often suffer from serious pimple and acne breakouts. Your diet should contain ample amounts of zinc, vitamin A, E, and magnesium. Make a nutritional chart that contains foods which are rich in these vitamins. This can also help you recover after an acne breakout. For instance, retinol is a great choice due to the fact that it contains a significant amount of Vitamin A. If you consume a lot of caffeine, you might want to stop now. Instead, you can switch to green tea, as that actually offers hydrating benefits.
2. Do Not Squeeze the Pimple
So many people I know make this common mistake. Never squeeze or pop the pimple the wrong way, because it will just exacerbate the problem. When you pop a pimple, it just releases the bacteria, allowing them to spread to different areas on your face. Before you know it, you will be noticing 2-3 pimples around the face.
3. Lip Make Up
When was the last time you picked up a lipstick and took a look at the ingredients on the back? Choosing the products that you apply onto your face carefully can actually have a huge impact on how your skin looks and feels. Most importantly, it can minimize the chances of a pimple appearing on your face. Avoid using a lipstick that contains coconut oil. Instead, look for options that contain panthenol and olive oil, both of which are actually beneficial since they do not attract dust.
4. Lemon Juice
If you don’t mind a little bit of irritation, using lemon juice is actually a great way to treat acne. Lemon juice is highly acidic. This will directly kill the bacteria under the clogged pores and will also help in drying out the pimple. Do not just dab your fingers in lemon juice and apply it onto the pimple. The oils and grime on your fingers might react with the lemon juice. Instead, use a sterile cotton swab and then apply it to the pimple before you go off to bed. Again, it’s imperative that you use freshly squeezed lemon juice. Avoid using bottled juices since they contain preservatives and harmful chemicals.
Exposing your pimple to steam is actually a great way to minimize the inflammation and chances of an infection. When you expose your pimple to steam, it will open up the blocked pores underneath, thus causing the excessive oil and bacteria to flow out from the pores. You can either bend and keep your face close to a bowl of hot water, or you can just stand in a hot shower. It takes around 20-30 minutes for the steam to open the pores, so make sure you give it enough time.
Now That You Know How to Get Rid of a Pimple on Your Lip, It’s Time to Focus on Preventative Measures!
What I have mentioned in the few paragraphs above are some of the most commonly used methods for treating pimples. We have also discussed the reasons behind the causes of pimples. So, the question is, can you find a way to minimize the chances of pimples appearing on your face? Well, of course! Here are some simple ways to minimize the chances of pimples and acne outbreaks on your face.
1. Avoid Using Lip Gloss Products
One of the first things that you need to do is to avoid using lip gloss. Lip balms and gloss products often contain a variety of ingredients that can actually increase the chances of acne and pimples around the lips. They contain a small amount of wax, which can cause a blockage in your pores. It won’t be long before bacteria and dirt will be trapped in the blocked pores, thus causing pimples. Furthermore, many lip gloss products have a specific fragrance. This enhances the production of sebum and we already know how that impacts pimples on your skin.
2. Wipe Your Mouth Carefully
You might be surprised to know that a simple measure such as wiping your mouth carefully after eating and drinking can actually have a huge impact on the frequency of pimples and acne outbreak. Residue left from the food or drinks you consume can become a feeding ground for bacteria. If there are any blocked pores around the lips, the bacteria might get trapped.
3. Avoid Using Toothpaste That Contains Fragrance and Flavor
The reasoning applied here is simple to lip balms and lip gloss. The chemical flavoring can cause your skin to react and increase the production of sebum in that region. There are several toothpastes that don’t contain any or less fragrance or flavoring. These include Biotene, Sensodyne, Burt’s Bees, and several others. You can ask your local pharmacist to give you a list of the best toothpastes that don’t contain any sort of fragrance or flavoring.
4. Brush Properly
When you brush your teeth with a fragrance free toothpaste, you should also brush on the lips. This will remove any residue or gunk that appears around the lips and prevent bacteria from accumulating near the lips.
5. Balanced Diet
I really can’t stress this point enough: if you want to minimize the chances of acne and pimples on your face, you need to consume a balanced diet. I have already mentioned the different vitamins that your skin requires to maintain a healthy glow. If you don’t provide your body with the required vitamins that it needs for proper health, your skin will lose its healthy glow. Furthermore, you need to drink an adequate amount of water on a daily basis. Almost 60% of your body is made of water. Consume at least 2 liters of water daily.
We all hate waking up in the morning and staring at our face, just to see a new pimple appearing right on the lip or any other part. Needless to say, we all have our own ways of dealing with pimples and spots. As long as you don’t pop it, and your strategy works, do let us know!
